I read Walk Strong, Look Up from a pretty decent perspective for evaluation. I have went through a lot of devotionals in my time, but I have read even more exercise books - even a few dedicated to fitness walking (Kathy Smith's walking book was my first, and probably still my favorite, for a near scientific level breakdown). I feel like Chantel covered faith and fitness with a good measure/mixture of each.
I was probably most impressed when the author thoroughly advised readers on the way to pick out a superb pair of walking shoes! Few books, even those that usually advise readers to get a good pair of shoes prior to beginning an exercise routine, get into the details of discovering over and underpronation and how to pick out shoes that compensate for your particular pronation style. I also found Chantel's smoothy recipes and meal recipes to a bit more accessible than many books. I don't feel like a person would break the bank buying the items needed to whip up these healthy options.
Another plus was the way each workout day included an inspiration Bible story/verse selection to meditate on while walking or provided readers with other thinking matter to take out on the walk ahead. Basic weight training exercises and tips are also included.
My only complaint is that, at times, Chantel Hobbs veered off into side stories that were a bit too lengthy to serve as good comparisons or contrasts to her exercise and faith message. It was also a little too cute and sing-song fun versus upbeat in places. Minor nitpick though considering the content. Somber wouldn't have exactly worked well either!
Walk Strong, Look Up by Chantel Hobbs is available as of September 2011 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.
Disclosure: I received a review copy of this volume.
